Re: High Speed club car motor
A lot of the time I think new users are not aware that speed cost. Not just money $$ but Runtime .
If you were only using 100 amps to drive the old cart at 12 MPH and you upgrade Cables motor ...etc then you are going to use A Lot more to do 26 MPH, so run time is reduced. Just like a car the faster you go the more gas it takes and going from stock 300 Amp controller to 500 Amp will get you more speed/torque but less run time !! This is my opinion and may or may-not reflect the views of others on this forum |

Re: High Speed club car motor
Prices vary between different areas as well as how many outlets are competing and freight costs. Trojan has good-better & best with T875 being the better with prices from approx $125 to $145. They make a T890 that is a doosie but adds about $50 per. I suggest you check your area for dealers, get quotes and by all means do your own installation. Draw diagram of cables prior to disconnect!!. pick up a battery strap for the trojans at 4/5$$ as it makes the job a lot easier. The whole process is about a 6pac afternoon.

Re: High Speed club car motor
Just found T875 on internet at $124. Also T860 (Good) at $114. This will give some comparisons for you. Also pay close attn. to gmorrison on the loss of run time with increased speed. You can't have the best of both!!

Re: High Speed club car motor
some tips to help with run time.
get 8 6v batteries instead of 6 8v batteries. The more lead you have the more there is for the chemical reaction to take place, thus longer run time. But if you are mainly using this for a course outing. Unless you are running WOT( wide open throttle) between each hole, the 8v batteries should last a round. There are people on the boards that use deep cycle batteries. But here is the deal. You pay 80 bucks for a battery and it lasts a couple years. Or you buy trojans like my father in law. He has gotten 8 years out of his set. So that would be four sets for his one set of trojans. so 124*6 = 744 or (80*6)*4 = $1920 for the Sams specials. So in the long run you come out $1176 better by getting the trojans. Just my thoughts on it all. Cheers Nick |

Re: High Speed club car motor
Where would you put two extra batteries?
Also the guys at cart zone said to take off 'wot' then slow down to the speed you want, something about a "dirty area" in motor when taking off slow?? |

Re: High Speed club car motor
Glad you found your problem
sorry its an expensive fix welcome to golf cart addiction I think a good number to count on for a Trojan battery is @ $125 a piece. You can find them cheaper but thats just a number for you to start saving your money . I agree that if you are going this far...just man up and get the 500A controller and be done with it...well there went a quick $1100 dollars huh? Good luck and take care |

Re: High Speed club car motor
I have nothing against Sam's club Interstate batteries. I have never used them but others that have reflected much shorter life span than the Trojans. A clue might be to check your golf course rental fleets. 90% will be Trojan batteries. There has got to be a reason.

Re: High Speed club car motor
hey...just out of curiousity...did you ever load test(drive while dragging brakes) the batteries?? What were the minimum voltage readings if you did that test? If not--no biggie

Re: High Speed club car motor
No but one of my mechanics has a true battery load tester and was going to try that after work.
