Default runs, then doesn't, then runs

so we have this golf cart and it was running great 91 g2 btw and went to go riding and it went 20 feet and quit so we looked at the wiring and everything looked good. it wont turn over or anything. BUT if it sits a little it will turn over and start then dies and then nothing. We figured out that if you put it in nutural and keep hitting, then relesing the gas it will start some times after pumping the gas like 20 times but then dies if you let off the gas... what is it? any ideas?

Check the switch on the gas pedal, you can short the plug and it should run all the time if the key is on. If not.....Check battery cables and clamps. Check fuses and ground connections.

The pedal switch as well as the battery connections run the generator and ignition at same time, that would be logical if it dies and will not crank.

everything else is good. I checked many times. How do I check to see if it works. I did get it stuck in mud/water and water was over that switch??

I did but no one had this problem where if you pump the gas a bunch it will fire after like 20 pumps and then not start again after you let off the gas

Sounds like the pedal switch is bad, with it being under water and all. But it's still makes you feel better buying a new one if you test it as being bad. Can you borrow a known good one to test it?
Just had a thought, check for a loose ground wire right in front of the generator, (from the ground lug on the gen. end cap, the wire goes into the wire harness, that connection there).
Smallblock would be proud of me, if that is it!!

I had one the pedal switch was going bad it had dirt in it. It was dead until you slammed the pedal down against the floor behind it, the vibration made the switch then work and it started. Looking at the switch I could see it come back out kind of slowly.

I've always been proud of your posts Mike I gues my question is "do you hear the solenoid click when you push on the accelerator pedal"? Simple tests, voltmeter + lead on battery post positive, - lead on small black wire at solenoid (with cart in nuetral and key on) you should have 12 volts all the time , if you loose voltage when pedal pushed, you have a ground problem. Now, volt meter - lead on - battery post, + lead on small red wire on solenoid, push on the pedal and you should read "full" battery voltage every time you push the pedal or somethings wrong "before" the solenoid. Try these 2 tests and lets see what you get. Remember a 12 volt battery (fully charged should almost read 13 volts) if you put your volt meter on the battery and push the pedal and the voltage drop to 10 volts or less, the solenoid cant activate and or you will have a "hesitation" starting.
