Post 91 club car carryall engine swap?

I have a 91 club car carryall with a gas engine.. cart is in bad shape, but engine good. I also just picked up a 97 club car carryall-1 golf cart but has no engine but cart is pretty decent. My question is can I put the 91 club car carryall engine into the 97 club car carryall-1. I am just wondering about bolt up issues or would I or can I just unbolt rear end and whole motor and bolt it into the 97. I haven’t had my hands on a cart for a lot of yrs so I figured I would ask for any info from you folks.
Thanks in advance for any info you all may have.

Default Re: 91 club car carryall engine swap?

If the 91 has the KF series flat head motor I’m not sure if it will swap without doing the whole rear.
If it has the FE290 OHV motor it will swap but the rotation direction will probably be reversed.
The early 290 rotated counter clockwise.
Around 96 or 97 they switched to a clockwise rotation.

Look at the transaxle on the 97. If it has the unitized transaxle design, it will use a clockwise motor. You can still use the earlier motors, just know that to go forward the gear shifter will have to be in the reverse position. It will also be slower in forward than in reverse, but it will have a ton of torque.
