kevlar cogged belt? Anyone try it on lifted cart?
So I am putting a clone in my G9, but anyway I order a new belt because I am machining the clutches too and need to fit it. So I measure my old belt and its not worn much just a little. When I ordered I see if I get the super hi-po kevlar belt at CPP I would get free shipping, lol, so it would only be a couple bucks more....yeah so I get one. It looks like a utv belt. Anyway it comes out of my secondary that I am going to cut and make even higher. It is cogged on top and bottom. It seems a little wider.
So has anyone run one and seen a difference in performance? They say they work better, but then anything you buy is the most best thing right so I rarely believe marketing. Would be nice if it lasted longer and was more efficient, even if it did not go faster lol. |

Re: kevlar cogged belt? Anyone try it on lifted cart?
Sho,I have a Plowmans kevlar on mine. Been on for 3 yrs. But don't have anything to compare it to. Have heard people talk about a belt that is a bit wider than stock, but thinking that mates with a cut sheave!?
Mine will climb 10" rocks. |

Re: kevlar cogged belt? Anyone try it on lifted cart?
I've done a few things to my clutches and I can drive over RR tracks and 12" tree trunks (logs). I had to work it over to pull boats out of a lake. I put a cut sheave on another cart and really liked it (w/stock spring). It gives a lower gear (also was a new cut sheave and put new sheave on the primary). Then I put a clone engine in that cart and can tell it helps it wind up and take off better.
So deal is putting a clone in my G9 now and want to cut the sheave. So I order a new belt to size the cut with, end up going with the HD belt at CPP. My old belt does not have that many miles on it, measures very close to new size. Well the HD belt does go out of the secondary some, not sure I can cut the sheave as far as the bought one (bought from CPP or TNT I forget where). I did cut the primary that will be cool to see if top speed is better. It can go half way out of it now lol, and you don't need a puller to do it. The way I see it the HD belt alone could work somewhat like a cut sheave. The cut sheave lets it close more and push the belt out the top, so a cut sheave and this HD belt is going to push the belt way out the top. But it may wear in some initially and sink down a little I don't know. I will cut it much as I can but will compare the two belts later. The old one is a yami belt and been on there maybe 3yr but I have not trail rode much in that time the engine was getting tired and less power. Now starting to smoke a little when I pulled it in and yanked the engine out. |

I've got the CCP belt on my stock cart and it works great. The cart will not idle in place now because the belt rides so high in the secondary--It goes as soon as you touch the gas. Never had a problem at CAW.

Re: kevlar cogged belt? Anyone try it on lifted cart?
So I modded my clutches some they are about junk anyway. But it just didn't work like I wanted to so I checked some things. Seems my clutches have enough wear on the sheaves the 1 1/4 wide belt works better just because of that. My 1 1/8 stock belt with a couple years on it (new 1 3/16) will not see the top of the primary and cuts top speed. On the other hand this thing was about to toss a weight they were so bad, and replaced it with another that is not much better.
Right now the cogs are out the top of the secondary and very close to the top of the primary if I rev it in neutral. The primary can go in more but will not, and the stock belt is lower yet but used to get this high. Not sure what could have changed when I rebuilt it with so-so parts it should work the same. I may grind the sheave it has a cup in at the top. My conclusion for part of the problem is the sheaves are worn in enough where the 1 1/4 wide belt makes it work like normal. The other side is the primary is not in good shape and may not be 100%. |
