Default 81 G1 gas running problem

I have a 81 G1 that had a aftermarket air filter on it, and I put the stock airbox back on it to quiet it back down. Now it runs really boggy and has no power. Has anyone had this problem or have ideas how I can fix this?

If it was done properly,When the open-filter was installed, the carb was also jetted-up.This will cause it to run rich with a stock-filter.A quick check is remove the lid and element. If it runs good now, this is likely the issue. You will have to find a stock-jet for the carb.Hope this helps.

No, but someone on here has a manual if it is not posted. There were different carbs offered on the G1 though, and may have taken different jets. You can cheat and solder the jet shut then drill it smaller. You can find the right size this way then buy one also, or leave it. Never jet too lean on a 2 stroke it can burn the piston. Unlikely to happen with a G1 since it is not a performance engine and not very stressed, just saying check the plug properly and make sure its not too lean.

You might be able to mod your airbox for more flow.

how did it proform with the aftermarket air cleaner and bigger jet?i have a complete carb i took off my 84 G1..the shaft on it had some play in it so thought that could be some of my no performance so i got new carb..i'd be interested in your air cleaner and bigger main jet..if the 84 g1 carb jet be same then it has the stock jet in it..maybe we could work out some kind of trade..we could trade jet for jet and i'd buy the air cleaner from you..pics to hotrodharley@wirelessbeehive.com
i need as much power i can get out of my G1;;don't mind the noise[just turn stereo up louder..lol

My guess is also that it has been jetted, assuming it has a stock carb on it. The carb could also be non original? Is the governor linkage still there and hooked up? Is the throttle cable routed directly to the carb?

A pic could verify this also.

Did you check it warm or cold? Cold psi 110 is good. Warm psi should be higher, although 110 would be ok.
