engine quitting
Yamaha g16, runs normal for a bit, then acts like it runs out of gas, after sitting for a bit, will run normal again, any input on this will be helpful!

Re: engine quitting
Mine was doing that and the fan shroud had a hole in it so it was not getting air where it needed it. They told me that the shroud should be cleaned also it gets dirty and causes over heating.

Re: engine quitting
Check the vent in the gas tank or cap. Try running it with the cap loose and see if that helps. Mine was plugged and did the same thing.

Re: engine quitting
I know nothing about this.engine in particular, but may wanna look at the coil. It could be getn hot and failing. If runs for a while and shuts down, then cools off and runs. That's one thing i would check, along with the other.suggestions as well

Re: engine quitting
Here is a new one I learned tonite from a Mower-Shop.The wonderful gas we have will Vapor-Lock.This mower ran great for a while, then quit, would sit a bit, then run somemore.Drained the tank(it was new gas last week),refilled with Premium, runs like new, never faltered once. The guy that told me this has a shop, hes' been in buisiness since the late 70's,We've known him since then.I thought it was far-fetched,but it worked. Also, how is the oil?If its old,or the wrong-grade it may be starting to seize when hot.I run straight-synthetic in our G16,No problems.Do Not Use Additives in the oil, they are splash-lube.

Re: engine quitting
I have seen this problem several times before on G-16 and G-22, It is the T.C.I. (also known as COIL). You have to remove the air shroud on the right side to replace it.
