Default Battery cost?

I am considering picking up a 91 E-Z-Go to use to get around a hunting lease, only catch is it needs new battery's. Today I went by the local NAPA and was quoted 107$ a battery. From what I have been hearing and reading on other forums not dedicated to carts I was expecting 50-65$ a battery... So what is the deal how much can I expect to pay for a set? Thanks Aaron

I was quoted $513 ($85.50 ea) tax included for a local store brand here.

I've heard pricing on the Trojan brand (105's) is usually $600 plus.

Walmart is $89 each here in Georgia and Sam's has them for $72.

I'm new at this golf cart stuff but it is thought here on this board to buy the better one's and maintain them the correct way, you save money buy not having to buy another set as soon as you will with the cheaper brands. Misc. Info

Voltage on a fully charged battery in good condition will read 2.12 to 2.15 volts per cell (about 12.75 volts for a 12 volt battery, or 6.40 for a 6 volt)

Specific Gravity Readings to determine State of Charge:

12.75 & Above = 100% Charged
12.60 to 12.74 = 85 to 100% Charged
12.40 to 12.59 = 75 to 85% Charged
12.20 to 12.39 = 50 to 75% Charged
12.00 to 12.19 = 25 to 50% Charged
12.00 & Below = Fully Discharged

In both voltage and specific gravity readings, consistency among cells and among batteries is important.

Wow that's crazy, When you talk about the battery's at walmart and sams are they actual golf cart battery's or automotive deep cycle battery's? Also what local store brand are you referring to? I am from the great state of GA too btw...

The place here in South Georgia is Battery Source, they have 11 locations in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. I know of a place in Thomasville that has the Trojan 105's for $450 and they throw in new cables.

The one's at Sam's and Walmart are for Golf Carts.

Where in Ga. are you located ?

Up around Augusta Ga, I can stomach 450$ but there is no way I am paying 600+... Is that a current price?

Edit: That's only 75$ a piece why are they so cheap there?

keep in mind guys you get what you pay for........i really don,t like the sams or sears batteries because most people don,t keep on top of the most important thing maintence............now if you buy them and youy break them in right and you do a good job maintaining them you,ll be ok but as soon as you start slacking on the maintence you have a nightmare on hand beleive me i have seen my share of these batteries under 1 year old that were junk due to owners lack of maintence.................the one thing about trogens is even without good maintence you can bring them back to life something thats almost impossible to do with the other brands........i had 3 E-Z, two had sams and the other sears 1 set 12 months old 1 set 11 months old and one set 18 months old out of all these batteries i was able to save 1 battery the others were all junk what a hard pill to swallow...........i tell the customer just the way it is and why it happened and they promise this will never happen again i,ll be back for regular maintence we are talking 20 minutes of down time and after all my preaching and all their promoises i even give them a step by step on paper what to do and when......guess what the next time i see them its because of the same old problem.......no maintence......very frustrating but its not my money my wife even sends them reminders in the mail still makes no difference...............so no matter what brand you decide to buy you MUST BREAK THEM IN RIGHT AND YOU MUST MAINTAIN THEM or your gonna be buying batteries every year......the only way around it buy a gas cart......................................

Personally to me spending alittle extra time maintaining them is worth saving the extra cash. What special procedures are there for breaking in/maintaining them? (New to this BTW...)

I'd also like to know the maintenance procedures and break in procedure. I'm picking up my new Trojans tomorrow morning. They have free cables with them.

There's no comparison to batteries and price. Sorry, but this subject just keeps coming around and around. Cheap batteries are cheap batteries. Take a big fish scale and weigh them. This will answer any and all questions to those who think the cheaper the better...

Mike's 2 cents - could be worth hundreds to you in the long run...

I'm confused with your post, first you say there is no comparison then it seems the rest of your post is trying to say there is?
