Default Motor/Differential Noise???

1998 EZGO DCS cart; It started making noise yesterday then went away. It is a growling, groaing noise that changes when accelerating and decelerating. If it were a car I would think the rear-end was going out but not sure when there is also an electric motor involved. As stated, it quit yesterday then this morning started up again. Appreciate any advice or suggestions.

TIA
Jim

My wife was using the cart and got home about half an hour ago. I decided to check the temp of the motor and it reads 138/141 degrees. Is this an acceptable temp?

check the brakes. Metal on metal brakes can make a noise that comes and goes. On the one I just fixed, it was just the heel of the shoe that wore down, so they brakes still worked, but made noise when driving.

If the brakes look good, put the cart up on stands and run the motor with the wheels and brake drums off and listen where the noise is.
