I have a 98 ezgo that dies after 20 min drive.Batteries show good individually and collectively. What should be my next thing to check?

They read 39.6 volts with the charger on it.they are one year old and the lowest value of the 6 batteries is 5.9 volts.the highest value is 6.4 volts.the charger turns on and off with my friends cart which is a 36volt pds cart.

Re: 98 ezgo txt
5.9 is a dead battery, and I bet it gets much lower under the load of driving.

Re: 98 ezgo txt
I maintain these batteries with distilled water and it is charging now.Sometimes it drives fine and no problems but then a gremlin gets in it and no matter how much I try it won't go if I unplug the fwd/rev switch from batteries and plug it back in a few minutes later it will go for a little while longer.I not real foliage with the cart but I love it for following my wife while she runs.

Re: 98 ezgo txt
Attached is an At-Rest Voltage vs State of Charge chart for golf cart batteries.
The At-Rest voltage is taken 12 to 24 hours after the charger shuts off automatically. As you see, a fully charged 36V battery pack should read 38.2V and a fully charged 6V battery should read 6.37V. Also, the individual batteries in the pack should all be within 0.1V of each other. With a TC-III charger (36V), the On-Charge voltage should climb to approximately 45V before it shuts off. |

Re: 98 ezgo txt
I agree it does sound like you have a battery problem, a battery can show a 'good' charge but fail under load. Install an in-dash digital battery meter and see what the voltage is dropping to under load and ultimately what the pack voltage reads when you try to go but it won't..... I think you will find the problem there.
It may be just one battery which is giving up the ghost. You can attach a DMM to each battery individually and test drive to see if one is falling significantly lower than the rest. |

I have seen a few post of late using the meter that is not digital. Our purchase from you on the digital meter was the best thing I did for my cart. I now know how the batteries are performing at every level, Up hill, down, long rides, etc.. |
