Default Battery Terminal Corrosion

I am experienced in cleaning and treating battery terminals, but I've run into something I can't find an answer to.

One of our member's carts has one terminal that keeps corroding over very quickly, like in a couple of weeks. I have cleaned it and coated it with terminal protector, but . . .

The cart also does not seem to be getting a full charge. I see him or his wife bring it in at the turn and getting one of the club's carts.

His charger failed two or three weeks ago and the local (Club Car) dealer repaired it free . . . something internal had "popped".

Any ideas?

Are you taking it apart to clean it, or cleaning it all bolted up in place?

This is a new issue and I just did a quick clean with foaming terminal cleaner, wiping it off with a damp towel. So, in place.

I have not done more because he just brought it to my attention today.

His wife had the cart on the course at the time, so I haven't checked anything more.

We have a couple hundred member carts on site and I have noticed some pretty poor battery maintenance habits, but not this one. They are pretty knowledgeable with this one.

OK, cleaning it bolted up will allow it to come right back again. Ya gotta take the lug off the post and clean all surfaces thoroughly. Then coat with protectant, then reassemble. If it comes back after that, I would swap that cable with another and see if the problem goes away.

I'll stick this here.

In our fleet of 2012 EZGo RXVs, every one of the back battery driver's side terminals is getting gooped up, and that is the only terminal on any battery that is.

Anyone know why?

I can't help with a diagnosis, but I have noticed that the + terminals seem to get corrosion moreso than the - ones. Someone may have a solution for this also!

Like was said earlier, since I am not taking the connection off to clean things, the corrosion is coming back . . . after just a month.

Of all the batteries, just that one back terminal.

Why is this not done at the factory, before the batteries are put in the carts?

Or, why is something not sprayed on all the connections once they are put in and connected?
