Default Help!

Is this the valve cover where oil leaking from? My cart is a 2015 G29, and when you cold start it, it will go for about 100 yards and lose all power. After a few a minutes of giving it gas and choking it, it will come back to life. It also smokes when cold start and every now and then it will backfire. I just had the carb clean and full service.

Check the oil. It sounds like it might be overfilled. Even 1/2 quart too much can cause this kind of issue. If the cart is stock, put it on a level surface (garage floor) and check the oil on the dipstick. When in doubt, drain and refill with exactly the amount and type listed in the manual.

If the cart is lifted it can throw the measurement off on the dipstick. Use exactly the amount listed in the owners manual, no more, no less. Sometimes if the angle of the engine is severe enough it must be corrected for proper oil flow etc.

That is the valve cover. You can try snugging the bolts but most likely it needs a gasket.

I am still trying to figure out why my cart smokes when it sits over night and first start up it smokes like hell and then goes away. The shop did a compression test and has plenty compression. Any thoughts on how the oil is leaking to cause the smoke?

There is a strong possibility that the needle in your carb is leaking excessive gas in to the engine. The gas siphons in when the engine is shut off. Is the oil level mysteriously rising in the crankcase?

No gas in oil, it is actually losing a little but I do have a oil leak from the valve cover and getting it fixed as we speak and adjusting the valves..

Another symptom is a slight engine chug when you first start it. This can be hard to detect but it is also a sign of a leaky needle.
It might be easier to discuss this live if you want to give me a call.
