is it time to replace the starter belt?
when i push the gas and the starter motor is turning but the belt takes about 5 to 10 seconds to engage does this mean it is time to replace the belt? it shows no signs of cracking like my drive belt but i guess it could be stretched. by the way i love this place. it is so nice to be able to ask a question and have so many people willing to help out. thanks to all

Is the belt loose? You may just need to tighten the belt up a little.

Replace the belt if it is cracking or peeling. You probably just need to adjust the tension...

thanks for the info. i have a feeling that adjusting the tension will fix my problem.
