![]() when i push the gas and the starter motor is turning but the belt takes about 5 to 10 seconds to engage does this mean it is time to replace the belt? it shows no signs of cracking like my drive belt but i guess it could be stretched. by the way i love this place. it is so nice to be able to ask a question and have so many people willing to help out. thanks to all

![]() Is the belt loose? You may just need to tighten the belt up a little.

![]() You starter should look something like this picture. You loosen all three of the mounting bolts-just enough so that its slightly loose. Use a large screwdriver or a pry bar to GENTLY rotate the starter until the belt is tight and tighten the mounting bolts while applying tension on the prybar. The belt should only have about a 1/2" of deflection in it when your done. If its still to loose try it again using a little more leverage on your pry bar/screwdiver. If its to tight try it again with a little less leverage (you don't want it to tight-its hard on the starter bearings and belt).

![]() Replace the belt if it is cracking or peeling. You probably just need to adjust the tension...
