Default G1 Sled engine swap

Every so often I see a yamaha G1 go for low $'s. Would something like my 440 FC suzuki engine fit in one without major surgery ?

If it's a twin, I would say it won't fit. If it's a single, possibly. The G1 has a very tight engine compartment. It's the smallest of the Yamaha carts. I have a Yamaha Exciter 440 that came with my cart, it was way too big and never would have worked.

Yes sir! G1 engines are super easy to rebuild and they run like tanks when rebuilt. Just sayin. Around here, a running cart in ok condition is $1000. In good condition $1200-$1500. What I used to do was buy 2-3 non running pieced out G1's for super cheap. Make one cart out of the 3, sell it for $1500 then part out the rest for $300-500. It takes room and time, but if you can get the carts cheap it's worth it.

Here a running grandpa cart $700-900. It looks like I will just have to spend the time fixing up the front of Suzi's chassis rather than finding something else.

I've found that anywhere near the beach, golf carts are more common and can be much cheaper, especially the older ones like the G1. Everyone and their brother has one near the beach. Up here, golf carts are not as common, unless they are retired golf course units for $2000.

You can get a twin in there if you really want to, the problems are if the sled engine does not run backwards for reverse you have no reverse....some do. Other problem is if you can't fit the pipe you lose a lot of power, or mod the pipe to fit. I always wanted to put a 340 in one, I have a 440 but no time and no G1. Some put a 250 ET or Bravo sled motor in there Slonomo did a project like that, you can convert the ignition to fit and so on. The high rev 2 strokes are not always ideal though they are noisy and stinky and hard to set up, they bog at low rpm and all that. Not seen anyone get an older 4 stroke sled and put that in a cart, now that would be something. Carts are too expensive here or Id have a few, unless you happen to run into a deal.

I did it. This is a EZGO Medalist, but a cart is a cart.
