Opened up a 3pg motor off my 1990 cart... found a 2pg piston.
I have a 3pg top end kit sitting around for my 1990 ezgo 3pg. Finally got around to pulling the engine and removing the cylinder. The cylinder is stamped 3pg as well.
When I pulled the jug off I noticed the piston has 1 window on the intake side instead of 2 like the new one in the kit. After cleaning the carbon off i found that its also a .025 piston. I removed the retainers and the wirst pin and also discovered 2 spacers between the wrist pin. With the spacers on the new piston dosent fit on the connecting rod. The new piston is tapered compared to the old piston thats flat between the wrist pin holes.. Now could I run a 3pg piston on this rod without the spacers? I know these spacers are pretty valuable to some people lol. I have no idea if someone put a 2pg crank in this engine or its the original 3pg crank. Are the cranks different? Also would the needle bearing be different? I might save my kit and get a 3pg .025 piston and deglaze this cylinder... it had 120lbs of compression. Walls look fine just shiny. Also the 2pg piston i took out had a small hairline crack on the skirt. |
