18hp vanguard upgrade parts
Hey guys new here and I just bought a 18hp vanguard and it's all stock what upgrades should I do first ? I want to rev high so that's one, 2bbl carb anything else that don't brake the bank at the moment

No adjustments other than installation. If you can find a stock Vanguard 23 cam, it will wake the 18 up. Or maybe advancing the stock cam 1 tooth.
The governor in the Vanguard will need to be removed, also. |

Rev kit will come with shims or springs and pushrods. Install the parts and then set the lash. Keep all stock parts on the same valve they came from. Should be all you need to do, may have to set the lash again as the parts wear in. You will have to keep the valves shut when you install if you have heads on the engine, so you need an air fitting for the plug hole or shove rope in the cylinder, etc. There are a lot of posts here in big block on it and other mods for the vanguard. You can also look at what is available for them at places that sell performance stuff for them, often they sell kits with the most popular upgrades.

If you want to put a 2 barrel carb on your 18hp you need to get the 20hp 2 barrel intake, it is the correct length from port to port and the correct " D " shape to match your 18hp heads, you can also find a set of 16hp heads to put on your 18hp block which will bump up your compression considerably also you can advance the can 1 tooth with your stock cam or get a 23 hp cam and install it straight up, no matter what you do you will need to remove the governor and install a rev kit before anything is done
