What is the TXT Axle shaft diameter
I'm doing some calculations on gear ratios and torque multiplications and it occurred to me to figure out how much force is being applied to the hub splines.
Using a diameter of 1" and a differential ratio of 12.44:1, it works out that the Moment of Force is about 300 pound at the hub splines for every ft/lb of torque the motor puts out, so the amount gets might high mighty fast and it's no wonder why they strip so easily.  Also, do all EZGO cart use the same diameter axles, or do the vary by body style, drive train type and/or model year? Last edited by JohnnieB; 10-29-2014 at 02:28 PM.. That is 0.78125", which is nearly 1/4" smaller than I estimated and that kicks the force applied to the splines up considerably.
With 12.44:1 gears in the differential and a 25/32" diameter axle diameter, we are putting 382.2 pounds of force on the hub splines for every ft/lb of torque the motor is generating. I don't have any stalled torque values for the stock DC motors used in our carts, but even if it is only 50 ft/lb, we can put 19,107 pounds of pressure on the hub spines. Keep those castle nuts tight on the axles. |

I finally changed the drivers side axle yesterday in our 04 TXT Ezgo. We bought it new in 04 already lifted. It was brand new still in plastic. The splines looked ok but the bearing was squeaking badly. Put new axle with bearing and it's nice and quite now.
Not bad for a lifted cart that has ran on flat ground here at our beach house for the past 16 years running 30 MPH. I plan on taking the axle home with me and putting a new bearing on it for a backup. I don't have a press here but do at home. |
