97 Club Car DS
I am rebuilding and rewiring this cart and I found a unit mounted on a metal strut behind the battery area I didn't recognize...it is about 7" long...made from aluminum and is encapsulated with black epoxy. One wire in and one wire out...the wire out connects to a neg. Battery post...the other wire...not sure but may go to the onboard computer...any ideas?

Re: 97 Club Car DS
Does the cart have lights or other accessories? Sounds like a voltage reducer. Pics would help

Re: 97 Club Car DS
That what it looks like! Thanks...I guess I couldn't see the other wires clearly but there is no way this unit is part of the basic control system or anything to do with the onboard computer...correct? I already have a 48v to 12v converter to take care of all of the new LED lights, etc. If I modified the charger I could also get rid of the onboard computer and clean things up. Nivel has a replacement part that goes inside your existing charger and makes it work without the OBC.

Re: 97 Club Car DS
Correct, the reducer is for add on accessories and should have nothing to do with the OBC. As for eliminating the OBC, I'd get a DPI charger. Even if you get this part from Nivel to make the existing charger work without the OBC, the charger will never turn off and will need to be unplugged to be turned off. The DPI is a stand alone smart charger that will not require an OBC to work and will shut off when batteries are "full". Plus, it float charges
