I have a feeling you are going to end up asking a little more from the cart than what's posted here. I would use an older 36v series Club Car for a base for 2 reasons;
1st. It's all aluminum frame makes it 300#s lighter. At the end of the day the power to weight ratio is the most critical factor in EV success.
2nd. The rear hubs are stronger than Ezgo. If you build it this will become an issue.

Find a cart that needs batteries and tires for a few hundred dollars. COnvert it to solid state speed control with my C74 kit, add HD F&R, 2g cables, and D&D high torque motor for best results. Run it on 48v with the DPI charger. The cart will produce 3Xs original power and 15-18 mph. I think you will be pleased.

This is very helpful. Thanks all! Sure has me thinking. I'm considering lithium ion batteries due to what I've heard regarding 1) time to recharge being much less 2) weight to power ratio and 3) they hold up better in colder climates. I understand the cost being much more up front so need to dig into that a bit more.

I'll reach out to you Scotty. Appreciate the comments.

I haven't tried a lithium pack but, I hear they can last 2 Xs as long as wet cell batts.

(ScottyB will be your new best friend!!) And that's Ok, 'cause he sells good stuff at good prices...AND he backs up what he sells. And if you are having install issues, you just hop onto this board and your issues will get solved.

I'd be interested in the "formula". Are you running a 72-volt system? Speed is usually taken at the sacrifice of torque. Or vice-versa. Unless your running more voltage and more amps. You may be climbing a tree....but you may be doing a running start, or climbing 1\4 of the tree. I dunno. I know there is no "magic dust" to this. So, please...tell us what your running.
