If you can grab the end of the armature shaft with a pipe wrench and just try top turn it, then it should break free.

that did not work for me either I had the same situation I just heated that coupling probably a minute or more and it popped free using the drop method. have some water handy once it pops free if you can cool the shaft

That give's me an idea, I can take it to the gym and tell the guys is's a great workout routine for building mass :)
