Disconnected small black cable from main ground, still won't run in forward or reverse.

What? There is no "main ground". Did you disconnect a wire from the motor controller end of the cable, or the battery end of the cable? Search the site for the rxv troubleshooting guide, it has tons of info from ezgo on testing stuff.

I did exactly this. Still does not run. Cart won't go into neutral either, brake is locked. Even with tow maintenance selected and key in neutral.

I have looked into the troubleshooting guide, but I am brand new to carts and don't know where to start there. I am mechanically inclined, but this is a whole new animal.

I had a similar problem with my 2008 RXV.

There's a connector under the cup holder that must be in place and in good condition. Is it there? Wiggle it , make sure you have good connection.

Had this same problem on one earlier this year. Called Mark at EZGO , thinking I had a couple of bad brakes. He instructed me that I had probably failed to "Time" the brake before I tightened the (3) 10mm bolts. He was right. Before you tighten the brake all the way down you connect Bosche plug to brake, in run, turn key on. You will hear the brake engage. This "times the brake". Turn key back off , put in tow, and tighten bolts. May not be your problem but it worked for me. Hope it helps. Good luck.

The shaft coming off the motor is keyed so the brake does have to go on with this key aligned and spin the motor until the bolt holes line up. Is this what you meant ?

No sir. Mark sent me a shop memo that details what to do. I am presently looking for it. Leave the bolts barely loose, turn switch to run, key to forward and you can hear the brake "align or time " itself. I will post the memo from EZGOO if I can find it. ( I put it where I would never lose it"
