You can easily tell if the motor is fried if you are getting voltage at terminals when accelerator is pressed, and it is not rotating.
Not certain how to do controller test on 92 DS. |

I would guess you are on the right track. If solenoid picks up and you are getting no voltage to the motor, then the controller is suspect.
