main positive post corrosion
My main positive post just started being covered with corrosion, my batteries are less that a year old, I am in the process of "breaking them in" as I have read on this site, and when not in use I keep a "Save A battery" hooked up to it.
Is that wrong? My digital volt meter has read that it is at 54.0 volts when the "Save A Battery " is hooked up. What is wrong? Thanks |

Re: main positive post corrosion
You may have a broken seal around the base of the lead post...take some anti-corrosion spray or paste or just a heavy grease and smear it around the area where the lead post and the case meet. Do not block the part of the post that contacts the cable especially with anti-corrosion spray or paste because it blocks the electrical connection. Many use dielectric grease. The other thought that can occur would be if that battery has a shorted plate it would cause the electrolyte to boil easily...so if that battery shows low in voltage compared to the other batteries and if it's using more water than the other batteries than its probably has a shorted plate and is a bad battery. If that's the case a used battery of the same approximate age would be the best replacement. Hope this gives you something to check.

Re: main positive post corrosion
My DPI voltage is much higher than 53 v. Not around it now but I'd say 60v.

The Bulk stage is 60ish and the finish/equalizing charge can be as high as 65ish... If you were upward of 60 volts in float you could be causing damage your batteries... |

Re: main positive post corrosion
Teecro, the cart has been used every day or two so it hasn't been on constant charge more than a couple of days. So I may have not gotten to a final stage. Will check this evening to see where it's at now.

Here is an interesting article I found that fits in with what you are talking about.
