Wire piercing Probes, just upstream of the plug on the harness side.

So I picked up a Fluke scope meter and want to make sure I connect it properly to the encoder wires when testing. I have a red (hot), green (ground) and then the blue and white wires which I believe are signal. So placing the red lead on red wire and then the ground lead on either signal wire should be the proper way or...? I assume the cart needs to be in neutral and in tow mode.

Here is the Scope I borrowed.

The scope ground lead connects to the green negative wire of the encoder, and the red scope lead is what is used to monitor the encoder output leads.

Thank you very much! I will follow up with the results. Hopefully it will help someone in the future in troubleshooting their encoder. I really appreciate all you guys help.

I would say the encoder is bad, thoughts?

When I have seen the encoder signal go wonky, it was off-the-chart, not just a little odd. So I can't immediately condemn the encoder by that pic. It's cool you actually did it, many asked how to have a look at it, but have never seen anyone post pics of actually doing it.

Yeah, it's cool! The cart will move forward and reverse but just creeps! To me, this doesn't look good. It does look close but now I'm stuck deciding if it needs changing! According to this test, I almost have too.

Where did you make your connections? The plug itself is often the source of problems. That's why I connect on the harness side of that plug. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try the test near the controller plug as well.

If I test it just sitting and not turning it looks real bad. These pictures are with it jacked up, pedal mashed and wheels turning.
