Default 42v XCT400PDS No reverse

I have a 2004 PDS recently upgraded to 42v XCT400PDS from Scotty B. Reverse began to operate only intermittently, now has completely quit. Seems as if it worked when there was a reverse horn, no horn, no reverse. No error codes on controller. Makes me think the switch might be bad. Can somebody point me to switch diagnostics, or should I just order a new switch?

These rocker switches do go bad.....mostly from corrosion. Which means you can often fix the problem with some terminal cleaning. A new switch is a $30 and that works too.

Sounds like a bad F/R switch to me too, but could be a intermittent connection somewhere along the orange wire.

Remove switch panel from dash to access rear of F/R switch.

Swap top and bottom wires (orange and green wires).

Reverse should now work when F/R is in F and Forward should now have issues.

If not, check the orange wire and its connections between F/R switch and J1 Pin-2 at controller.

Thank you both. I cleaned everything up, replaced one connector that was a little loose and reversed the orange and green wires. When I put the F/R switch in reverse, I move forward normally. That's kinda the opposite of what you told me to expect. With the switch in forward, nothing. Continuity on the orange wire is good all the way to the controller. Does it still sound like the switch?

No....... if only one direction works try swapping the top and bottom wires...... if the direction changes replace the switch. If the direct remains the same replace the controller.

Scotty,
I got the controller May 3. Is it under warranty?

All of the Alltrax controllers have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase.
Check your switch.

I reversed the green/orange wires on the switch. When I put it in R it moves forward. When I put it in F it does nothing. Is that what you mean by "Check your switch?"

Original problem:
Went forward with F selected on F/R switch. Did not run in reverse when R was selected on F/R switch.

Swapped top and bottom wire of F/R switch.
New symptoms:
Now it goes forward when R is selected and does not go in reverse when F is selected.

That tells me the F/R switch is good, but the controller is not going into reverse mode.

Could also be J1 Pin-2 is not making contact at the controller, or the orange wire is bad between F/R switch and controller.

Continuity of the orange wire checks out. Connector at the controller looks good. Is there any way to test that connection?
