300 Amp Curtis controller on 48v?
Hi everyone,
I have a 36v series EZGO TXT that I'm converting to 48v. Im replacing the batteries, all cables, FNR, and charger, as well as the solenoid. It's a "freedom" model TXT with a 300 AMP Curtis 25864G10. It's rated at 36 volts, and it says "remanufactured genuine EZ GO motor controller" on it, which I find unusual. Im guessing it's a Curtis 1206-3. Basically, the question is, how will this controller do at 48 volts? I know that it will work (because I "tested it" with 8 6v batteries before removing the body.) Thanks, Luke |

Nobody knows if a stock controller will work well with 48 volts?

Re: 300 Amp Curtis controller on 48v?
I would imagine it wouldn't work for very long; I went through two Curtis controllers at 36Volt using my cart around the farm, load was just too much for it. I ended up going with a 500amp from Scotty. Point is, heavy loads at 36v are too much for it so 48v I think will kill it that much faster. JMO...

The filter capacitors inside your controller are rated at 50 volts. A fully charged 48 volt battery pack will exceed 50 volts and may damage the controller.

Ok. Thanks guys. I’ll sell the controller while it’s good and get another Alltrax.

Re: 300 Amp Curtis controller on 48v?
It should handle 42 volts fine?

Re: 300 Amp Curtis controller on 48v?
Overvolted the stock controller shortens it's lifespan, how much depends on luck, and how much overvoltage you do. My 36v controller lasted about a month on 48v, then lost all "umph" and would take 2 blocks to get up to speed.
