If the F&R is not adjusted properly it will only get partial contact ( as Johnnie said) In terms of contact the correct alignment is when the F&R center cam rotates to a position against the housing stop on each side. Anything less and the contact area is reduced, reducing the amperage capacity.
With the key off shift into forward. Note the direction the cam rotates. Now remove the linkage without moving the F&R center shift cam. Once the linkage is removed - put a 9/16 wrench on the center shaft and see if the cam will rotate further in the direction the shift linkage was moving it when you put the cart in forward.

Hello,
Thanks for your help. The guys who are installing it our my local golf cart repair shop. If they are installing it wrong I in trouble. I searched for how to record a data log. Is that something they would know how to do? Or is there some walkthough you could point me at?

Thanks,
Mark

Whether the cart shop guys know how to record a data log or not, it is something you should be able to do. It is a handy tool.

Attached are some helpful stuff.

Surprising news. I went to do Scotty's F/R checking and the cart now will drive both forward and reverse. So now I have no idea what is wrong.

Should the F/R get hot at all from driving? Any ideas on what I should check now?

Thanks for your help,
MH

No the F&R should not get hot. And another thought. It should be a little hard to shift. If it shifts easily somebody is loosing up the contact tension. This will kill F&R switches.

2) is f/r cam rotating all the way into the mechanical stops when in F or R?

A data log might be useful.

Zip the *.csv file to post it here.
