Getting battery voltage on cart body
so i got a 1995 ez go medalist 36 volt cart that that stopped running. while checking battery voltage i noticed with volt meter neg lead connected to last negative battery post in the series, touching pos volt meter lead to chassis or metal body, meter reads 36 volts. is this normal or is there a problem and where do i look. here is my progress so far. so first things first, checked each battery voltage and all within range. checked battery cables finding no bad ones , replaced some connectors that seemed bad, cleaned terminals and connection ends and tighten everything tight. run diagnostics testing as per pggroves 4/28/11 post on dcs and conponents, everything seemed to check ok. did motor continuity test, all seemed to checkout. is there maybe a short ? seems a hot short would fry the whole thing. any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: Getting battery voltage on cart body
Often we find ghost voltage on the frame caused by wet batteries assuming no accessories are grounded to the frame. This ghost voltage has no amperage so it has little effect although it can mess with the Alltrax throttle signal response, in which case there is a capacitor filter available.

Here is a search on BGW where you can read (a lot) about ghost voltage:

Re: Getting battery voltage on cart body
The voltmeter on my 94 Medalist is directly connected to the battery + and - of the battery pack.
Never ground anything on an electric cart to the frame. According to JohnnieB's State of charge chart (attached) A fully charged 36v pack should read 38.2 volts after a 12hr rest, each 6v battery should read 6.37volts fully charged. |

Re: Getting battery voltage on cart body
Look up how to "test" your motor. Find out what type motor you have and perform the test. Sounds like something could be shorting out in the motor.
