Which 8V battery would you buy? FL Dade/Broward Area
I'm having a hell of a time finding batteries in South Florida and I'm also a little confused.
This is what I have so far. US Battery (Red) US 8VGC - $141.07 - We'll cover for a month and after that MFG warranty Trojan T-875 - $131 - MFG warranty only. Take back to Trojan. Powertron GBAP8000 - $130 18 month bring them back and we'll replace warranty Crown CR-150 - $125 18 month bring them back and we'll replace warranty Which would you pick? Anyone know any other reputable dealers in SFL? Thanks. |

Trojan T875
Reasoning: The US mentioned is the same capacity as the Trojan but $10 each more The Powertron (made by Trojan) is less capacity for same price The Crown, although a quality piece IMO at 150ah is significantly less capacity than the the T- 875 (170ah) All these prices seem high to me but I'm in Atlanta area. |

I called the dealer with the $131 price and he seemed a bit shady so I am ruling him out. I found a better price on the US at $119, and the next best price for the Trojan is $145. And yes, I think the prices are all high. Thanks. |

make sure to compare apples to apples. In this case capacity. The accumulated wisdom on this board has been to buy the most capacity you can afford because higher capacity = more range per charge and longer service life all else being equal.
Also, Trojan, Crown and US have been the top 3 recommended here for several years. In any case proper maintenance is key to long battery life. |

US Battery factory warranty is 12 months. If you pay more, the distributer can give you up to a 24 month warranty. All ratings mentioned are at the 20 Hour rate. My last battery bank purchase had been a set of 242 A/H 6V US Battery batteries from a dealer in central NC. The distributer had given a 24 month warranty. A battery case cracked at a corner and leaked, at 25 months old. Warranty had just expired. I will not buy from US Battery again. I had paid a premium for them, and expected them to provide at least 4 years of service. I bought a new set of 487 A/H 6V Rolls batteries while I was in Miami FL. Top of the line of lead/acid battery manufacturers. And paid less per A/H than the US Battery purchase. I had considered the Duracell batteries from Batteries+, but decided upon the Rolls due to the Duracell were slightly smaller in order to fit, but were quite a bit lower in A/H capacity. Not worth it when A/H is usually the most important criteria for performance and longevity. Bob |
