Lightbulb DS Dashboard options...custom make a panel?

I'd like to add a switch plate and volt meter to my DS. I picked up a second hand burlwood plastic dashboard, but it's really flimsy and I don't think I'm going to use it. I'm not opposted to getting some sheet aluminum to fabbing up something to use, but rather than reinvent the wheel I figured I'd ask you guys. Right now I'm thinking of going towards a NASCAR type build, stock height, white letter tires, black wheels, and a bright color paint. Red? Orange? What's been done and how did you do it? Thinking something like this:

Switches will be for LED lighting, and perhaps the START switch for a horn.

Thoughts?

Those dashes are more flimsy when not attached.

i don't know about you guys, but trying to hit the horn button on the dash of a golf cart in motion is awkward, same with lights. i move the horn and light switch beside the F/N/R switch. easy peasy

I have my horn down on the floor ... similar to the old school dimmer switch for headlights. It is a very similar switch, but instead of a click type of dimmer, it is just a normally open push button that I can operate with my foot. IMO = Much easier.
I'd love to have it in the center of the steering wheel, but can't quite figure that one out without swapping out the whole steering column.

The thought is to take a sheet of aluminum and cut it out the same pattern as, let's say, the left side of the dash pocket. Use the rivet nuts on the frame of the dash and security machine screws to attach the aluminum (or diamond plate). On THAT would be the race car switch panel. As far as the horn being on the dash, it's really just something to do with the switch. If someone tries to mess with the cart while it's parked, and they decide to hit the switch, they get a nice loud horn honk. I AM intrigued on the horn button thread and will check it out.
