New batteries in my 99 ezgo and still sluggish going uphill
I just swapped my new batteries out of my club car when I found a deal on this 99 ez-go that’s in much better shape however I noticed it goes 12-14 mph on flat ground which is good for me but going up a hill (although it is a big one) it only goes about 5 mph. The batteries are brand new purchased 3 months ago. Do you think something is wrong with it or is that all I’m gonna get! One of the pics below shows the batteries that I swapped out of the club car.

Re: New batteries in my 99 ezgo and still sluggish going uphill
Which drive system?
If it has a Run/Tow on the controller cover, it is a DCS (sepex drive), if not it is a series drive. What model Duracell? They have 210AH and 230AH 6V batteries. Picture of the EZGO with the batteries installed would be nice. Any of the thick cables getting hot after climbing hills? What is the pack voltage before climbing the hill and while climbing the hill? |

Re: New batteries in my 99 ezgo and still sluggish going uphill
Well Johnnie B according to your questions can I assume that something isn’t right with the cart? I have brand new 230 AH Duracell batteries in it. I can take a picture tomorrow with them installed. I don’t even know what a controller cover is but I’ll do some research to learn. Ill try and go up that hill tomorrow and let you know what the difference in voltage is. So long story short does something seem wrong Johnnie?

Top speed as well as hill climbing speed is reduced if the heavy cables are sick, but top speed for both a stock series drive and a stock PDS drive is about 14MPH and if there is excessive resistance in the amp delivery circuit, hill speeds are slower than usual. There should be a black box with cables coming out of the bottom under the passenger seat. That is the controller cover. |

thanks again Johnnie B. I am getting the 15mph on flat ground but I dont think this hill should make it go so slow. but you be the judge. After i find that controller cover what would i be looking to do with it? thanks again for you help!

Re: New batteries in my 99 ezgo and still sluggish going uphill
Isnt this actually a 36v clubcar "resistor cart"? Your 30+ year old motor is "all gummed up with carbon". And, even if it performed "just as designed" would be too slow. Hope you got it for a good deal, because the upgrade path isnt gonna be cheap. Sorry, but I think you got hoodwinked.
Hope this isnt a total joke. If so, it didnt slip past me. |

2. Looking for a toggle switch on the cover to determine if your cart has a series drive or a sepex drive (DCS). Series drives slow more on hills than sepex drives do. -------- If you're getting 15MPH on level pavement, your tires might be taller than stock (18"). What size is stamped on the sidewalls? |

Re: New batteries in my 99 ezgo and still sluggish going uphill
The EZGO is the right choice since the CC is a resistor drive and the EZGO has an electronic speed controller.
The EZGO has a series drive, which slows more on hills than sepex drives. If the body is metal, it is a Medalist, if it is plastic, it is a TXT. The high current cables are in poor condition and some of them are 6Ga and one looks like an automotive type battery cable. All 13 (or 14) should be 4Ga or thicker. Good cables will most likely improve the uphill speeds. There are 4 cables and wires on the main positive and main negative terminals and with the dual post type terminal found on your Duracell batteries, you can separate the high current cable connection from the low current connection of the wires using a battery post clamps something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-BA...%2C151&sr=8-14 In a nutshell, the EZGO has more upgrade potential than the CC you have. |
