2016 and Newer RXV Rear-End (Different?)
I've got a 2016 RXV, the rear end driveline components have dates of May, 2016 on them.
I'm looking to service the rear end, replace bearings, fluid, etc. It seems all the directions I read on here cite drain plugs and fill plugs, I can't find those on mine. I recall reading there were some changes for different years. Anyways, looking for the directions and recommended fluid, I've seen 75W-90 mentioned, 75W-140, straight gear oil, etc. I've read 2 oz of friction modifier and I've read 6 oz. Trying to figure out the best approach here. I do have a vent hole on the axle itself, but I can't imagine pumping 25+ ounces through that, so I think open axle pouring is the preferred route. I'm probably looking to have someone more seasoned do all of this and replace rear end components, but wanting to know the right fluids and approach first. Thanks |

Re: 2016 and Newer RXV Rear-End (Different?)
My 2014 RXV has a push plug in the bottom which is pointless because it only allows about half of the fluid to drain out. It can't be used to drain, it can't be used to fill, and it can't be used to check the fluid level.
You have to remove the pan to drain all the fluid. I removed the driver side axle to fill through the axle tube. Sounds worse than it was... I used 25-oz of 85W-140 and 2-oz of friction modifier per my manual. |

A syringe with short rubber hose (~9mm) works absolutely fine, no need to disamble half the cart for filling the oil (tested twice). For draining remove the pan every time. I've used 75-90 limited slip oil gl5.
