Auto Parts Solenoids DO NOT work for long on golf carts. Automotive uses are momentary and Golf Cart solenoids are continuous ...

Agreed for an electric cart but this is a gasser.
I'm a sparky guy but I would guess any automotive 12v solenoid would work for a gas cart.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong........and why.

An auto solenoid will not last. Scotty is right. An auto solenoid is momentary contact only. A continuous duty solenoid like a golf cart requires has thicker contacts that are more durable and resistant to heat. I have tried both and found that the auto sol. did not last. Upon drilling out the rivets on both to inspect I found the diff. in the two solenoids. The auto sol. will get you by but will not last long at all.
