Default 96 elect. txt rear end problems

i have a 96 ezgo txt which makes noise upon decelleration. I pulled the motor and the bearings in the motor are fine and splines are fine . The inputshaft splines are fine and no play in the shaft! Theres about 1/4" backlash in the input shaft. I jacked the rearend up and spun the wheels and can hear the same rattle in the gears. Are there any diagrams on the gear set for dissembly? I have a service manual and parts manual but they only cover axle shafts and bearings. nothing on the gear set! any help on dissembly, parts,or an exploded view would be great!!!!

the rear end is a very simple set up since there is not a pinion gear to adjust as in an auto type rear. the gears are straight cut so there is no backlash to adjust.

just drop the pan and remove the 4 carrier bolts and the assembly will come out. then you will be able to see if you have any broken parts in there. good time to change the oil also. 10 oz. of 30wt.

thanks madoc 1! What are the two apposing freeze plugs hiding? maybe a center carrier gear and bearings? I sure wish i had a exploded view for shim placments and so forth! Any of our sponsors have parts or is it ezgo only?

You should get the freeze plugs and consider pulling the unit out of the cart to work on the bench.

I have the freeze plugs out, diff cover off, input shaft out, brake drums off. Everything looks good, no teeth missing on any gears, no play in bearings spider gears no play, but when i spin the axels about every 10 revolutions it has a very metalic clunk and cant pinpoint where its comin from?whats next?complete dissembly and spin all bearings to find bad one or replace them all????

If it's every 10 or so revolutions it could be a chipped ring gear, the ratio is 12.44:1.
Also consider the axle to brake drum spline as a clunking source.

When my cart "sits" for more a week or so the rear end will "rattle" on decel for a little while but the sound dissapates with use.

Pull the axles and run it slowly. Is the clunking noise still there?

no more noise with axles out. driver side bearing bad.ive got the carrier out so i can swab the tubes [ lots of dirt ] may as well finish out with the middle bearing and gearset.are the o-rings for the middle gearset the same as the o-ring at the input shaft?any body have a part # for them? last thing, how important is the rubber bumper spline between the input shaft and the motor? mine is missing or didnt come with it!!!!
