I had the very same thing happen to my G-1. I bought a new after market carb
and had to start it at full throttle. I finally found the original replacement carb
J10-14100-02 and it solved all problems and started and ran like a top with 90lbs. compression

I have taken one of the engines apart and am going to order a a cylinder and piston kit for it. Any thing I need to know about putting it back together or is it just slap it back together and fire it up?

The starter is a generator also. It stays moving when the engine is running to charge up the battery... Not like your truck that has a separate altenator.

The problem is they made 3 carbs for the G-1 and I think you need Yamaha part J10-14100-02

It is running and I'm an idiot.

I installed a new cylinder and piston kit and installed the motor, I still had the same issue. I thought it might be the fuel pump giving it to much gas. The pump that was on it looked just like the one on my G16's. I got a new fuel pump and installed it, still had the flooding problem. My son and I were setting there looking at in disgust and he said you think we have enough spark? I check the wiring to the coil and it looked good, I removed the ground and cleaned it. I then tried to start it and it sounded a little better. I then ran a jumper from the battery ground to the coil ground and VIOLA it started and ran like a top. So as it goes I'm an idiot for not checking the ground to coil and I'm also about $450.00 lighter in the wallet.

Lesson learned the hard way, always check your power and grounds.
