G16 running better without air filter
Hi everyone!
I've come here before for answers to my questions and finally had the time to sign up. I'd like to 1st say thank you for all the help you've given me without you even knowing :) I have a G16 gas, it was running rough, found out the choke cable was bad, so I replaced that, then local place told me I needed a new carb and they installed it. It's now running but seems to have a skip. I replaced the spark plug with a new one, took it out after a few attempts and it's black. I also noticed when I put the air filter (new) on and the box snapped on it runs like crap. With the air filter off, it runs great. PCV hose has no cracks or crunches either. Gaskets on everything have been replaced. I also took the exhaust off and that's fine. What do you think? Beating my head against the wall here. Thank you for your time and reading this. |

Is the air box well sealed? All rubber straps need to be on it. If that air box is sucking air somewhere, it will run like crap.

Now if I remember correctly it should run like crap with the air box off right? When I take the air box off it runs perfect.

Re: G16 running better without air filter
I crimped the fuel line with the air box on and now it evens out and is running smoothly. When I release the fuel line and let it return back to its normal flow the problem returns.

Re: G16 running better without air filter
Does your new carb have a Jet in it? If its running good with no airbox it sounds like its getting a ton of fuel. When you pinch the fuel line and use the airbox its cutting down on the fuel.

Re: G16 running better without air filter
Yep, missing jet, wrong jet, stuck float or some junk in the inlet needle valve seat.
