Default Sun cruiser rev limiter problem

I am working on a 1991 or so sun classic. I drilled out the rev limiter arm and got a little more rpm but there seems to be a electronic rev limit as well. I can't find much info on the sun cruiser and could use some help.

Thanks in advance

Probably setup like the G2 which has a rev limiter. Nothing you can do about it as far as I know. It is built into the ignition module located on the gas tank (most Yamaha's anyway). Might be able to swap it with a G9 and rig it up some way or use the wiring harness from the G9.

wow, looks like there is an opportunity for a lad with electronic ingenuity to make some money. Newer Briggs and Stratton 35hp engines have coil rev limiters and an aftermarket company makes hi rev coils seems like it would be a very similiar product. Does anyone know for sure if it is coil or black box limited.

You can put in a G9 ignition module but you will need to do some "splicing".

Might check the primary clutch weights.
