I charge mine with an automatic 12v charger, but I don't see why you couldn't. My plan is to install an onboard charger like what's found on boats at some point.

I have a 12v socket beside the 36v charge port. I don't like the idea of charging from the dash. Charging through 8" of wire sounds better than charging through 8' of wire.

Maybe even more important than length, make sure you size your wires from the charging port to the battery to take the maximum current your charger can put out.

The socket will melt down before that fine strand 10ga. No worries...

Kab

will 10 gauge wire be good enough to run from power port to seperate 12v battery? I have one coming and want to install it where the hole is currently for the FNR switch under the seat

Unless you're using it to power a large air compressor or something, oh yeah! The port I use to.charge the battery is wired with 10ga. The outlet bank on the dash (for plugging in assorted phones and toys) is wired with 14ga from a fuse block fed from my winch contactor.

I wasn't worrying about you, but wanted others who might read this to be mindful.

My 12 volt charger has two settings, 30 amps and 70, though there's little chance I'd be able to connect its 6 AWG cables to a cigarette lighter adapter.

Yikes! I use a trickle charger/ maintainer. Bet it doesn't take long to boost a dead car with that thing!

The power port I received has 16 gauge wire..gonna change it to a bigger gauge, run it straight to sep 12v battery and use a trickle charger to charge that battery
