The torque kit is a heavier spring that replaces the spring in the secondary clutch. It holds the clutch in the power band for climbing hills and such. BIG DIFFERENCE! You can get a kit from Ron at cartpartsplus.com for around 50 bucks. I got the 6" jakes kit from buggiesunlimited.com for around 300 bucks. Another company makes a 4" kit, but that just wasn't big enough for me. Here's the links.

There is a sticky for the clutch kit installation at the top of the "yamaha gas carts" page that will give you a little better idea of what you're dealing with.

I like the G1 because it is a 2 cycle and can be made to run very fast without much expense. I run a Harley now and stock it runs almost 20 MPH and on my land that is fast enough. I am looking for a g1 and will have one when I find one I can Afford. I prefer my cart low and very fast but today folks like lifted carts!
