Default Is this a starter/gen issue or voltage regulator

So I found a good deal on a 2008 gas Precedent. The dealer put a new battery in it right before I loaded it up on my trailer b/c they said someone left the lights on. ( it would not start before the battery was put in it) It was fine the week before when I drove it. SO I get it to the house and drive about 5 miles and now it will not start and the battery is showing 12.25v.. I can jump it with cables off my truck and it will run in maintenance mode until I let off the gas. I will be calling the dealer first thing in the morning. So is this a starter gen problem or voltage regulator?

Thanks

First call the dealer and raise he!!

charge the battery fully. then measure the voltage at the battery while the cart is running at mid throttle in maint mode. you should expect to see, well over 12.5 volts.. exact number escapes me at the moment. anyways it should raise with throttle to a point. if it is the same as the battery is at rest, then its a charging problem. if you do a search on here there is a test to check generator by grounding out a lug. that will make the gen go into full charge mode.

So I threw a start generator at it but have not charged my battery. the battery is at 12.2 and when I jump it off my truck it is at 13.xx once the jumper cables are removed it drops to 9.xx volts and still runs. So would this be a voltage regulator?

Sounds like a bad regulator to me!
At part throttle, the s/g should be pumping out around 15 volts!

Voltage regulator was the problem.. Not the belt is squealing but I think it is from the new paint on the starter /gen pulley. The start gen is a little slow to start sometimes when the gas is pushed. Any ideas there?

Starter belt is tightened and and now the cart will not move. The solenoid is clicking with the petal movement but the start gen is not moving. Could it be too tight?

So when the gas is pushed the hot side of the selanoid does not transfer power to the other side (where the white wire comes out to the S/G). I guess I will be needing one of those too.. The clicking noise is no long coming from the solenoid. This cart is killing me!

So I tested the starter/ gen from a search on this forum. The one on the cart did not work(I went cheap and I hope there is a warranty) but the original one I took off did work. So I swapped them out and the cart is not squealing the voltage reg. is charging right at 15. So far I have driven about 5 miles with it.
