you will get significantly less run time with 3 -12 volt batteries than you will with 6-6 volt batteries.

Like Golfcartman said. If you already have 3 twelve volts and are using them for testing that is fine. But if you are buying 3 twelve volts to use you are wasting money.

the harley 36-volt us solenoids to give you 4 speeds ( in my case really 2-3 speeds) / gears.

The 6 volt batteries are wired in 2 banks with each bank of 3 in series.

with the solenoids controls are putting the 2 banks of 3 - 6v batteries (18 v) parallel for 18 v and series for 36 volts through a resistor bank and bypass the resistor bank.

SO in addtion to lack of range you will really just have the high speeds and nothing until the pedal gets to the floor.

you can not do it. You can just do 36 volts so you will only have high speed leading to a jerky ride. I have found this article helpful for my 1980 but I do not know if your cart is covered by this

Like others have said, you just can’t do it with the quirky drive system that these old Harleys have. Now if you convert to solid state, then you could run three 12v batts no problem.
