83 or 84 G1 cart?

Trying to determine year of my G1 cart. I was told it was either an 83 or 84. Have looked on the left, rear square frame member. I have an aluminum rear foot rest. Could it be under this bracket?

That is where it's "supposed" to be. But others on this forum have found it in other locations. Mine was actually on the right side in that same location (square tube). Another place I've heard it found is on the tube between the shock mounts. Also if it's the original engine it will be on a surface of the engine. If you are looking at the engine from the fan side it will be on the left of the fan where the plastics meet the engine. Might have to clean some crud off to see it.

Thanks for the added info. Numbers located on the right side in that same location (square tube). J31-140344. Looks like a 1986.

BTW- under the serial number were the numbers 85-06. Are those the born-on-date- June 85?

Glad you were able to locate that number. It will be helpful should you need to order some parts. If you're in the engine compartment you can compare that number to the one on the engine to see if it's the original.

Can't say about the born on date.

Not sure if you've gotten any replies on your top question. I've got a couple pics but it doesn't show in the detail you will want. I'll try to get some and post in that thread.
