Testing an EZGO Power Wise charger....
Any way to test if my Power Wise charger is working like it's supposed to? I'll be charging a new pack of Trojans soon and don't want to screw them up out of the gate if something is wrong my existing charger. Thanks in advance.

Re: Testing an EZGO Power Wise charger....
Ammeter should climb into the 15A-20A moments after the charger is connected to pack, stay there for a while and then start tapering off. When the pack voltage gets someplace in the 44V-46V range, it should shut off.
Since they are new batteries, the initial charge may take several hours, 12 or more. BTW: The charger voltage has to match the pack voltage. I added this because you were speculating about going to 48V in other threads. Last edited by JohnnieB; 01-07-2015 at 12:25 PM.. Reason: Added comment |

Re: Testing an EZGO Power Wise charger....
Definitely JohnnieB, I appreciate your attention to detail. I am just considering all alternatives right now. I still have a lot of questions on whether I want to invest a couple of $1000 into this cart of just buy the UTV. My wife is adamant about keeping the cart as she prefers it at the beach. The question then becomes can I make the cart do what I would want (in a UTV) within reason. If I keep the cart and opt to buy a UTV, I'll simply replace the batteries and use the existing charger. Hence my question on how to make sure the charger is working properly. :)
Thanks again for all of your insight over the last couple of days. shrp |

Re: Testing an EZGO Power Wise charger....
JohnnieB, would I measure the amperage once the charger is connected on the same terminals I measure the voltage for the entire pack?

If so, it was specifically designed to charge Trojan batteries. The charge profile is built into it and cannot be changed. |
