No hill climbing power
I recently bought a 2002 txt, it has 5 Trojan t105 batteries that that I cant read year of manufacture and 1 powertron p2000 from 2013. After charging batteries starting at front passenger and going CCW are 6.68, 6.66, 6.67, 6.82, 6.67, & 6.65 pack reading was 40.05, when I charged it the other day and checked the following morning pack was reading 38.22v. So the problem I had the other day was I went for a 45min to an hour ride with the kids and the golf cart became real sluggish coming up a hill almost to the point of stopping but would ride fine on flat surface or downhill, I had just put in the speed chip a few days ago. When we got home it would not make it up the driveway hill and battery pack was reading 36.5v, I tested it when I put the speed chip in the other day and it hard a hard time getting up the hill but still made it. I also have the mild hill chip I am switching back to that was installed when I purchased it, it makes it up the hill a lot better. I am not sure if the speed chip drains the batteries quicker or if I may have another issue. I checked the solenoid with a multimeter and the large post closest to the battery reads same as the battery pack and the other side is almost exactly 2v less, the manual I have says it should be at least 3v less or it may have a bad resistor. Unfortunately the reverse buzzer does not work so I cant troubleshoot in diagnostic mode, I think I hear a slight beep in the dash when toggling to reverse. Anyone know where I should start? I will have to get another meter with gator clips to test voltage on battery pack underload since I only have a pencil tester but I will pick up an El Cheapo from Harbor Freight in the morning and run some more tests.

Sounds like a failing battery to me. Put your meter probes in the charge port plugs and try driving it with passenger watching voltage.

I checked the pack again since it has rested from the charge and it was as follows 6.38, 6.38, 6.36, 6.5, 6.38, 6.38, 38.47v pack. I jacked up the rear end and tested the batteries while holding down the pedal 6.2, 6.22, 6.14, 6.34, 6.18, 6.19, 37.3v pack. I did notice bottom rear tires spin when on the pedal but the drivers tire stops as soon as you left off the pedal as the passenger seems to coast down. Does that sound right? not sure if these have positraction.

Sounds normal. But testing with the wheels spinning in the air is a totally worthless test for the batteries of something you know runs. Only way to create any load worth measuring is by actually driving it.

Give us a starting point. Like pack total voltage before driving, then a reading going down level road and then the critical, reading going up the hill where the cart slows. Sounds like your batteries have lost some capacity due to age

Ok so here is what I got this morning pack started at 38.1 and was at 37.6 at the end of this checked batteries in same order as before
sitting flat hill 6.36 5.41 5.11 6.28 5.43 5.04 6.23 5.22 4.35 6.39 5.96 5.67 6.24 5.25 4.72 6.23 5.23 4.95 Flat ground varied so I checked it at the same spot in the road |

Time for new batteries.
38.1 starting is less than 50% of full capacity to start and 29.84 under load is why you are having performance problems. |

38.1 starting is 50% charge for 36v? I thought 38.2v is 100% or am I reading the chart wrong. is there a rule of thumb for what the 6v battery should be under load? the voltage varied so I took the lowest reading, the voltage was probably .3 higher going up the hill as opposed to what I had at the peak of the hill. I was hoping if I needed to replace the batteries I could get away with changing half now and the rest in spring. I don't know the age of the 5 Trojan batteries but the 1 powertron that tests the highest voltage is 2 years old

Under load 5.9 is the lowest they should go. These batteries are off the chart under load. Do some research before mixing old and new batteries. THe new batteries are reduced to equal the old batteries rather quick. I hope this helps |
