If the cart was up against a wall and the pedal was stuck down a little, the motor would not be "reving" unless the tire was spinning. If it was just stalled, I would have thought the cart would catch on fire. I defiantly would think it would hurt the motor.

In any case, you could get an upgraded motor that might not give you a lot of increased proformance right now. But you could upgrade other stuff later. It's unforunent that you didn't buy an upgraded controller when you needed one.

Setting aside the stalled motor had enough amps flowing through it for long enough to take out the controller, neither a stock PDS controller or a stock PDS controller are designed to turn tires that are taller than 18".

Since you describe the cart as being lifted, the tires are most likely taller than 20" (max tire height for a non-lifted cart) and a new stock controller and new stock motor are destined to the same fate as the originals, even without the assistance of a careless and clueless 19 year old.

If you are going to run tall tires, you need a compatible drive system.

What size or model controller should I be looking at getting. Newbie here. Would like to get something I won't have to worry about. Budget friendly if that's possible.

An Alltrax XCT400PDS or XCT500PDS depending on tire height and terrain.

Would the controller going out cause the motor to smoke?

Running with the motor stalled will kill the motor for sure. Then the motor will take out the controller.

I checked all the connections last night and there is a loose post on the motor. Could this be the culprit of why it was slow and smoking from the motor

Here is what the cart looks like (who doesnt love pictures), I will probably try and trade the wheel/tire package with tires that can go on golf courses.

The controller that was installed was a Curtis 73326G07- Curtis 36-volt, 350 amp (1206MX-4301) solid state speed controller. Provides more torque than the stock controller and up to 19 mph. IS this not large enough for this cart? Just want to drive it around the neighborhood and on the golf course.

Sorry for all of the newbie questions.

That is a nice cart. Yes, a loose connection can cause smoke and poor performance. I think a 350 amp controller will be good for you.

Your course won't allow those tires?

Most likely the motor is damaged - find another used stock motor to go with the stock controller and cart.
