Default EZ GO Solenoid Wiring Problem

I just purchased a new solenoid for my 2002 EZ GO TXT PDS golf cart. It's the same as the old, but the cart still isn't working. I forgot to take a picture before I took the wires off. I looked on-line on how to replace the solenoid and all the videos and pictures show 2 red wires on the left small terminal in front and 2 black wires on the right small terminal in the front, but I only have 3 wires; red, blue, and yellow. The pictures and videos also say a 1 amp diode should be placed across those two terminals, but I know I didn't take one off and I didn't get a one with the new unit. Is my cart been modified or am I missing something?

golferguy......the pictures you have been looking at with the RED and BLACK wires on the solenoid are SERIES carts wiring, the colors are different. you need to have a wi8ring diagram for a PDS and the colors will correspond to what you have.

the YELLOW goes to the + side small post, the BLUE goes to the - side small post. the RED goes to the - side LARGE post. and no diode on your cart.

Sir Nuke,
Thanks for the clarification. This being the case, I have it wired correctly, but the cart still doesn't work. Controller?

The red wire goes the the battery side large terminal. (Neither of the larger terminals would have a "-" polarity.)

Energizing the solenoid on a PDS is a two step process.
First you have to get the controller to put B+ on the yellow wire and then you have to get the controller to put B- on the blue wire when the pedal is pushed.

First place to check is for voltage on the smaller of the three wires coming out of the back of the charger receptacle.

Then check for battery pack voltage (B+) on J1 Pins 4&5.

Actually, with charger not plugged into cart, Run/Tow switch in RUN, key switch ON and Forward selected on F/R switch, you should have B+ on all the pins in J1 except Pins 2 & 10 before the pedal is pushed and not on Pins 2, 6 and 10 when pedal is pushed.

very true both side LARGE posts are +....as current is flowing through the solenoid from the + side of the Pack to the B+ on the controller....what I meant was the same side that the BLUE wire is on....I guess I wasn't very clear.

Guys, thanks for the responses, but I'm still not clear on one comment regarding "energizing the solenoid". Exactly what does that mean? Is there something I should have done when I installed it to get it energized?

Thanks.

Activate the solenoid.
Make solenoid click.
Close solenoid contacts.

The solenoid is a switch for the cart's main power supply.
Each time you ask the cart to go positive and negative voltage is delivered to the small posts of the solenoid.
This creates an electromagnetic field which 'energizes' or activates the switch.
