Default RXV rear axle bearings and 20.5 tire rub?

Hi everyone,

couple of questions:

I just installed 20.5 inch tires on my 2013 RXV (215 50 12) they rub while taking corners at reasonable speed especially if a bump is involved - is there an established place I should be trimming plastic when putting this size tire on or do I just have to look around to try to see where it's rubbing? It was said that this size tire would fit just fine on my non lifted cart but maybe I missed some instructions on somewhere I needed to trim the fenders etc?

Also - I just noticed what sounds like an axle bearing going out on the driver's rear corner, I'll inspect it on jack stands etc but if it is a bad bearing, is there a how to out there somewhere on how to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided!!

If you look in the wheel well, on the bumper, you will see a rounded curve. Trim it out like this. Just get rid of the round curve.

great...thank you for that! looks simple.

Anyone have a thought on wheel bearing procedure? I can find some info on the older EZGO's but the RXV seems to be a different animal...

Actually, it's super similar to all the other Dana axles.

Sorry I didn't elaborate. Same as 2 decades of Ezgo txts, 15 years of Yamahas, but not club cars, they are different.

Got it. I was reading on some other threads about problems with loose hubs on the RXV rear axle so I'll check that out too

If the rear leaf springs have weakened, it can cause the tires to rub. 20.5" tires should not rub if the springs are not weakened. Trimming the bumper as mentioned will give clearance. But if the springs have weakened, other rubbing issues can pop up if you carry enough passengers or weight.

just to post the resolution for any future readers:

Trimming outlined by cgtech above worked perfectly - no more rub.

Also - I had a loose castle nut on my driver side axle with no cotter pin! The bearing was fine but hub was starting to get a little loose. All threads still looked good, so I cleaned everything up and put it back together, torqued the nut to about 100 ft/lbs and put a new cotter pin in there. I checked my passenger side axle just to see if the same issue could arise and the hub and axle looked to be new with a new cotter pin etc...looks like that side already stripped out before I got it!

I'll be checking mine every so often to make sure all is still good.

Thanks for the help and info guys!

BTW - Bob, this thing runs a solid 32 mph on flats with just the tires and your programming, so fast that I'm well over the speed limit and passing cars on most streets I drive on! Going up medium hills is maybe 2 mph slower. I was thinking about having you modify a 350 amp curtis controller for this cart and maybe going to a 72 volt Lithium pack in the future when money permits but this is already fast enough!
