The red wire (Input side)?
I used the ground wire coming from the pack to the reducer, I put the switch you see in the picture to turn off the reducer when not in use. Once you switch the ground off going to the reducer from the battery pack the reducer is off and there is no 12v on the other side. If you need 12v you turn the switch back on and the reducer comes back on and every thing hooked to 12v is now live.

Look at my post with the pictures. You can see the switch under the seat I installed on the ground going from the pack to the reducer.

You can do it that way. Same principle, I just use the + side.
