TXT won't rev when cold

I've got a 2004 TXT 4-cycle that when cold it will not rev. Choked or no choke it will just turn at low RPM's till it warms up-about 2-3 min-then runs fine It will back fire though carb sometimes with or w/o being choked. It has a new or rebuilt motor that have no idea how old. Any ideas what to start checking? Thanks, Tom

I would say it's a classic case of time to adjust the valves. .004" of clearance.

Also check that your choke is closing all the way. (had that trouble)

Got'er fixed and running great! Checked spark and that was good. Checked and adjusted valves which were way out of adjustment. Check fuel pump it was fine. Took carb off and while disassembling it the needle fell out Found that it wasn't installed around tang on float assembly causing gas to flood or starve engine. Re assembled correct and works great. Thought I'd pass it along in case it may help others.

One more thing I just found out when ordering parts-it's a 2000 not 2004. That's why parts diagrams looked confusing. Last 2 digits of model number is the yr. B400
