Default Life span of starter/generators

I’ve got a’98 ezgo TXT gasser and I’ve gone thru about 3 starters in 2 years. I have replaced the voltage regulator and batteries along the way but the starters just aren’t lasting. They all end up in the same condition. They eventually don’t have enough torque to turn over the engine. I take them apart to do a startertopsy and my on last one the commutator was worn really bad. The previous one had very little wear if any. It’s not making any sense. I use the cart daily to run the dogs for an hour or two. Currently the battery is good but I haven’t been able to start it to test the regulator. Yes I am buying the aftermarket starters. Maybe that’s it.

I’m just curious how often are you guys replacing your starters.
Thanks

I think you have answered your own question!

The motors should last the life of the cart with occasional new brushes fitted. I dont think i have ever had one fail, even in the golf fleets i maintain.

I have seen them fail, and yes, most were aftermarket, OEM fails but rarely, you answered your own question.
There are many areas that you can reduce maintenance cost by going aftermarket but the electronics isn't the area to skimp.

Ignitors, coils, regulators and yes, starter/generators are money best spent going OEM.
Cost more but you get 20+ years out of them verses 2 to 5.

Thanks for the feedback. I kinda thought aftermarket starters were my problem just didn’t want to believe it.

The oem ujits are expensive, but usually good for 20 years.

Aftermarket are 1/3 the price and good for anywhere from a few weeks to a year. Luck of the draw

I just changed the brushes out on my RXV starter generator -- I did spend the extra coin and got the oem brushes. Also - when replacing the start solenoid, do NOT by the aftermarket junk! The OEM's (trombetta's) are more expensive but worth it!!!
