You DO NEED a high amp controller but you also have a connection issue that needs to be addressed. If not you will eventually toast the stocker

I believe its 5.1 hp, but not 100% positive. Are there any threads on taking the FNR switch apart and checking the contacts etc?

Listen to the guys about the bad connections. I had the same symptoms as you and thaqt is what it was.

those f-n-r switches stock do not like alot of amps running thru them, esp if they are orig and worn, You can replace just the contacts or the whole unit itself. Since you are wanting to upgrade controllers you migh as well upgrade/replace the f-n-r switch. if you dont that will be your weakest link and you will still have wire problems.

My cart is also a '92. It is a Marathon. I was told it was a series motor. Could it be a Sepex? And if it is what is different? Jim |
